Men are stupid ... and they like big boobs : a woman's guide to beauty through plastic surgery by Joan Rivers( Book )
7 editions published between 2009 and 2010 in English and held by 678 libraries worldwide
Joan Rivers is one of the few celebrities unafraid to admit what she's "had done" to keep looking so great. Now, she gives women straight-talking advice on better living through looking better. Informed by the country's top plastic surgeons, she takes the mystery out of cosmetic surgery, taking you step-by-step through the entire process, from finding the right doctor to the bruising truth about recovery and the facts about cosmetic surgery's very real risks. But don't worry--there's dish, too. This book is rife with Hollywood gossip about who's done what and how often--and is filled with Rivers's personal anecdotes about life under the knife. This is a funny, frank, and genuinely passionate argument for a woman's right to do whatever it takes to be beautiful, to feel better about herself, and be happy.--From publisher description

"Once a month, four New York City moms forget about shaky marriages, rebellious children, and rocky careers--and place a bet on friendship. Besides the fact that their kids all attend the same fashionable Brooklyn Heights private school, Bess, Robin, Carla, and Alicia have little in common. Thrown together on the tony school's Diversity Committee, the women impulsively turn their awkward first meeting into a boisterous game of poker. Instead of betting with chips or pocket change, however, they play for intimate secrets about their lives. Soon enough, virtual strangers are transformed into close confidantes. As the Diversity Commitee meetings become a highly anticipated monthly ritual, the new friends reveal more with each game. Appearances deceive. Picture-perfect housewife Bess struggles to relate to her surly teenage daughter and judgmental mother. Robin, a bohemian single mom, grapples with the truth concerning her child's real father. Carla, an ambitious African American doctor, attempts to balance the colossal demands of her family with her dream of owning her own private practice. And to distract herself from her troubled marriage, shy copywriter Alicia fantasizes about an attractive younger colleague. Putting all their cards on the table, the four women grow to rely on one another, bracing for one final showdown"--

Thin is the new happy by Valerie Frankel( Book )
2 editions published between 2008 and 2009 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Prolific author Frankel (most recently, I Take This Man) was only 11 when her mother put her on a diet. She went from 100 to 88 pounds in six weeks, making her mother ecstatic, although she gained back four pounds right away. Frankel learned a basic lesson: she could enjoy eating or have approval, but not both. Although she blamed her mother's fatphobia for her unhappy childhood, from middle school on her peers were her cruelest tormenters. As she got older, her bad body image translated to anorgasmia; research shows that women who feel unattractive often develop sexual dysfunction. Later, working at Mademoiselle, where so many co-workers had eating disorders, she realized that an obsession with diet was one way of avoiding life's thornier issues. In her 40s, Frankel decided to jettison all the emotional baggage she was carrying about her weight, to free herself, finally, from dieting. After hiring a photographer to shoot a portfolio of her nude, having a friend help her find her personal style in clothing and coming to terms with her husband and her mother over fat issues, Frankel finally got rid of her body-image negativity
Behind the bedroom door : getting it, giving it, loving it, missing it ( file )
1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
We may not admit it, but we're all curious about what goes on in other people's bedrooms. After all, we live in a world saturated with sex, which makes it tough not to wonder how we measure up'and even tougher to talk about our intimate experiences honestly. In this frank, poignant collection, twenty-six acclaimed writers go Behind the Bedroom Door and lay bare the messy, mind-blowing, often hilarious encounters that make up a woman's history. By sharing their stories, authors like Susan Cheever, Hope Edelman, and Julie Powell bravely open a window on the passions, predilections and problems that we encounter between the sheets. In doing so, they reassure us that whatever we feel, whatever we do or don't do in the bedroom, we're not alone. Telling the truth about sex'how we like it, how often we get it, how it affects us'isn't easy. This eye-opening anthology tells the truth about women's intimate lives, shattering some deeply entrenched myths about what goes on in the bedrooms of real women along the way: Susan Cheever upends conventional notions about women, sex, and sentiment in her essay "In Praise of One-Night Stands."' Sex is the last thing on Lauren Slater's mind when the bestselling author and psychologist reveals a few surprising truths, even joys, about her virtually sexless marriage in "Overcome."' Julie Powell serves up a searing chronicle of an illicit affair in "Lost in Space"; and novelist Valerie Frankel takes a decidedly lighter view in "Ouch, You're Lying on My Hair." Whether you're twenty or seventy, single or perpetually coupled up, these frank, seriously sexy essays provide a deeply illuminating, ultimately comforting no-holds-barred look at our most private selves. Gutsy and provocative, they reveal a great deal about how far we've come'and how far we still have to go. From the Hardcover edition
