Seven stories on a woman's search for love, first as a defiant teenager and finally as a reluctant career girl. The heroine narrates, "There are stacks and stacks of How to Meet and Marry Mr. Right, and I take my copy up to the counter as furtively as if it were a girdle or vibrator."

"The book's structure reflects the journey - from student, to graduate, to alumni - which an international student might take when he or she decides to study in Australia. Two important new pieces of research illuminate the journey. Firstly, there is yet more confirmation that the academic performance of international students is virtually identical to Australian students. This result comes from an analysis of the performance of nearly 200,000 students in Group of 8 universities in 2007. Secondly, through a very detailed survey of nearly 2,000 alumni of the Australian Technology Network of Universities, we find out what Australia's international students do after they graduate - where they live, what jobs they have, what they aspire to and what they think about their education. What emerges is a picture of graduates who are part of the global workforce, who establish global networks and who become part of Australia's connectedness with Asian countries and beyond."--Foreword, p. 1.
